In Prague, she studied chemistry, in London, one of the most prestigious fashion design school in the world - Central Saint Martins. A year after her graduation and presentation of her final collection at London Fashion Week, Martina Špetlová, one of the most successful Czech fashion designers, found a brand of the same name. The author is currently living and working in London, where you can buy her models; you can do so in Milan or Hong Kong as well. She also goes to Poland regularly to teach fashion design at the fashion department of Academy of Arts in Warsaw. Since the beginning of 2015, Martina can be found in all three legendary Dover Street Markets in London, Tokyo and New York.
Spetlova creates bold handwoven leather jackets, coats and interior design pieces highly identifiable by their bright colour patterns and unexpected juxtapositions. Her background in biology and chemistry influences her uniquely experimental approach that restlessly challenges materials, elements and expectations.
Beyond her design aesthetic, Spetlova is deeply committed to sustainability and ethical sourcing. She collaborates closely with communities of women artisans to foster new connections and spark conversations about the importance of modern craftsmanship and social responsibility.
She strongly believes in the power of transparency and storytelling and uses cutting-edge technology to provide a detailed digital life story for each of her pieces. With a scannable chip that reveals the materials, sourcing and processes behind her creations, Spetlova invites her audience to engage with her work in a more meaningful way.
