In Prague, she studied chemistry, in London, one of the most prestigious fashion design school in the world - Central Saint Martins. A year after her graduation and presentation of her final collection at London Fashion Week, Martina Špetlová, one of the most successful Czech fashion designers, found a brand of the same name. The author is currently living and working in London, where you can buy her models; you can do so in Milan or Hong Kong as well. She also goes to Poland regularly to teach fashion design at the fashion department of Academy of Arts in Warsaw. Since the beginning of 2015, Martina can be found in all three legendary Dover Street Markets in London, Tokyo and New York.
This coming spring/summer 2016 season I have researched the works of Abstract British painter and printmaker Howard Hodgkin. Combining geometric flatness to a more complex fluid patterning the classic weave has been developed in a variation of shapes keeping in line with my signature style but exploring greater possibilities within the colours and textures. Smocked and delicate perforated leather skins are softer and summery but the shapes remain boxy, androgynous and asymmetrical,“ says Martina about her new collection.
